Vroon shores up global fleet with turnkey 4G LTE solution from Cradlepoint and Blue Wireless
Background and Challenges
To enable cloud solutions and maritime applications across 120 vessels, shipping group Vroon needed to augment onboard networking infrastructure. Enterprise platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics and MS Teams require persistent connectivity and, while the existing satellite-based service provided global coverage, it was slow and expensive. Vroon decided to strengthen fleet networks with 4G LTE for ships operating near shore, but also needed a solution that wouldn’t rely on in-person IT support.
Solution
Vroon contacted cellular provider Blue Wireless to supplement fleet-wide satellite networks with widely-available cellular broadband. For reliable onboard connectivity, the company deployed Cradlepoint’s NetCloud Service for Mobile and ruggedised wireless edge routers — featuring built- in 4G LTE, dual modems, robust Wi-Fi, and cloud-controlled, centralised network management.
